Meanwhile, everybody else is saying that all there is waiting for you at the top is loneliness, stress, and dissatisfaction. This begs the question, "Why, sir/ma'am, do you want to make it to the top of the mountain so badly?"
Maybe it's just me, but sometimes enjoying the simple pleasures of life are enough. My family, friends, etc. make up my mountain, my "top spot." I no longer find contentment in the things offered by the world - money, fame, the whole nine yards. I think when we can all get to that place of REAL satisfaction with the way things are (without always dreaming about what we want) we would be a lot better off.
Contentment is the secret to happiness. Not happy? Here's a brain twister - try wanting LESS, and be OK with what's already on your plate (metaphorically speaking). Notice how the happiest people are the ones who have been there and done that, and are now finally settled down??? They've realized that life is not so much about the destination as it is the journey.
So there you have it. Happiness is directly related to contentment. Where's your contentment, your happy place? Is it sitting around the table playing uno into the wee hours of the night with childhood friends and crazy (in a good way) relatives? Or is it sitting at the office counting up this month's surplus while the family eats another quiet dinner?
Just food for thought! Find your source of contentment. Chances are, that's where your happiness is!
